No hips? No problem! I’m a pretty petite girl, and while tiny waists are “in” (which just frustrates me to believe that a body type is a trend), I do like to amp up my figure a bit to get the illusion of a more womanly shape. Don’t get me wrong, I love my body type. I can pretty much eat whatever I please and never gain a pound. But fashion is all about expressing yourself. And sometimes, I want to express my womanly-ness! Women want to feel sexy, but my body isn’t super curvy. To balance my petite, boyish frame, I’ve recently discovered the corset trend. to provide a waist cinching look. Corsets are all the hype right now, so it’s only fitting that I sport some to unleash my inner superwoman!
Both of these looks are from my most recent MAC event. I got a ton of compliments on both looks and felt super cool. It was a different look for me but I was loving the boudoir glam look! Here are the two corset looks that I rocked that weekend.
SK8TER GIRL CHIC
On day one, I wanted to be more casual, as the event lasted from 1 pm to 6 pm, and I didn’t want to be too uncomfortable. So I channeled my inner Avril Lavigne and mixed her with a little Love & Hip-Hop to get this tomboy glam look!
I found this cute graphic tee featuring the late great Whitney Houston. Novelty band tees are always in style, however there aren’t many bands or artists I would want to wear on a shirt. But who doesn’t love Whitney? I paired it with a gold lariat necklace and bangles.
It was warm outside that Friday (almost 80 degrees) so I decided to be brave and rock a short sleeve shirt with a mini skirt. But of course, Chicago’s weather was like SIKE! The temperature dropped a good 40 degrees by the time I made it back outside to take an OOTD picture for the ‘gram. Hence, the mini photoshoot in 7-11, a great excuse to get a Slurpee!
My intentions were to let Whitney shine, however this corset skirt wouldn’t let her be great. However the concept of this piece is so different, I couldn’t pass it up! This red underbust corset skirt was featured on Fashion Bomb Daily’s Instagram page. It’s been worn by Cardi B, Keke Palmer and I loved it on my fellow YouTube sister, MonicaStyleMuse. I try not to splurge on frivolous things but Instagram always gets me! To give it a more casual feel I rocked it with another spring trend, fishnet socks, and Puma Basket sneakers. The satin shoelaces are just too adorable to me! Just enough girly to keep the balance in a glam skater girl look.
For the second day, I decided to play around with the corset trend more, but with a more traditional yet sophisticated look. Of course I was running late, so I didn’t have much time to think about this outfit when I threw it together. My exact thoughts were “slay but keep warm, we dont want a repeat from yesterday.” Therefore, I started with this cold shoulder sweater and white jeans. Cold shoulders are in this season, but they are also a great way to transition a sweater from winter to spring.
For shoes, I wanted to keep the look sleek. I went for my favorite boots of all time, the suede over the knee boots. They are very expensive because they’re real suede, but you can find many inexpensive alternatives! These boots are great quality and I’ve gotten tremendous wear out of them.
Because the sweater and jeans combo was too basic for my liking, I took it up a notch and added the satin corset. I love the edgy and sexy vibe it gives this monochromatic look overall, especially with the long black hair and winged liner. This look is a good marriage between a ninja assassin and an Instagram baddie. Want to know how I did my hair and makeup? Be sure to check out my GRWM video for details!
That’s all for now, folks! I have a few more corsets that I can’t wait to wear, and I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated with more spring trends! Be sure to let me know if you would like to see more outfit posts and leave a comment below! Toodles! xx
